Coastlands

Hey everyone we’re back after a brief hiatus with some new music from Portland’s own Coastlands. Their new album is called To Be Found. The post-rock group has been playing together for the last couple of years, and this new album is incredibly dynamic. Coastlands uses a lot of grungy guitars along with great drumming that includes a lot of cymbals. To Be Found is a great album for those who love Explosions in the Sky, though Coastlands is not as ambient. The whole album is super well constructed, it sounds like driving the coastal highways in the Pacific Northwest. Highly recommended to all those post-rock lovers out there.

Amos Val

Brand new music from Portland’s post-rock outfit Amos Val. The album is called Yūgen. These guys have such an epic sound to their music. Amos Val’s newest record sounds super good! Yūgen brings out the best in each band member. From the crashing drums, the ripping bass lines, the dissonance of the guitars playing together all combine for a brilliant album. Amos Val definitely is one of the premiere post-rock band in Portland. The new album focuses a little harder on lyrics and vocals more than their previous recordings, and it adds another layer of depth to the band. Definitely give Yūgen a listen to, and be sure to check out Amos Val live.

Coastlands

New music from Portland band Coastlands. The post-rock band has just released their single “Western Skies” last week for their upcoming album. Coastlands’ music is more on the ambient side of the post-rock spectrum. “Western Skies” starts off nicely with floating guitar/keyboard noise, along with some rolling snare and cymbal hits. Then around the 3 minute mark is when the build up starts to come to fruition, and that’s when the hard guitar chords come in to take over your attention. The ending of “Western Skies” is very beautiful, as it is what the entire song has been leading to, a feeling of completeness. Coastlands put on an excellent show as well, they just announced a few dates where they will tour. March 5th in Seattle, April 29th in Oakland, and April 30th in San Jose. There will also be several shows in Portland as well.

Red Hands Black Feet

New music from the post-rock group Red Hands Black Feet, called We Must Fall Forever if We Survive. These guys are one of our favorite bands out of Boise. The new album is quite magical, there are so many moments that you just get lost in the movement. Red Hands Black Feet create a sense of falling forever, but making it okay to do so. We Must Fall Forever if We Survive is a real epic of an album, with beautiful songs. You got to listen to it.

Sun Blood Stories

Brand new album from Sun Blood Stories called Twilight Midnight Morning. This Idaho band have a sweet droney style of music. Sun Blood Stories craft a witchy concoction of brooding drone-rock. The opening track “Palace Mountain Mirage” opens the album with an excellent slide guitar riff that sets the mood for the rest of Twilight Midnight Morning. Tracks 4 (Witch Wind) and 6 (Night Tremor) have a more highly driven bass line that makes for more of a psychedelic-metal feel to it. My favorite track on the record is the finale “Misery is Nebulous.” Sun Blood Stories brings such great musicianship to this record, and it sounds amazing, so go listen to it and support independent artists.
