Close Encounter is a new band from Seattle. They just released a 7-track EP called First Light. The EP is so groovy and catchy, I can’t stop listening to it. Driving beats, dizzying synths, and well-written guitar parts all make up the excellent song writing that Close Encounter has. I really like how the sound is on the darker side of shoegaze, but still has that super groovy bass line and guitar riffs. You get a feel of the album as soon as the opening notes of “Lumina” hit your ears. Overall, First Light by Close Encounter is a fantastic album with plenty of indie-soul, dream-pop, and shoegaze. Tell your friends!
Spirit Award is from Seattle, and will be playing at Treefort Music Fest this year. Their single “Las Vegas” came out back in August, and it sounds great. These guys have a classic indie-rock sound to them. They have great driving beats, along with catchy guitar riffs. It’s hard to believe that their sound comes from just three members. Definitely put them on your radar, they are going to come out with some excellent music!
THEESatisfaction is a hip-hop duo from Seattle, WA, and their brand new album is called EarthEE. But the music is something more than just hip-hop. There is a lot of soul to the new album, along with incredibly smooth beats. THEESatisfaction has some serious sexy music, with their vocals ranging between sultry breathiness to crooning choruses. It’s hard to pinpoint my favorite song on EarthEE because the album is solid gold through and through. Ishmael Butler from Shabazz Palaces makes an appearance on a couple of songs “Blandlands” and “EarthEE”. THEESatisfaction has made one of the best albums this year already with EarthEE so make sure to listen to it.
New music from the rocking duo out of Seattle. It’s The Grizzled Mighty with a new LP called Closed Knuckle Jaw. The Grizzled Mighty is a powerhouse blues-rock band from the Pacific Northwest. With just a guitarist/vocalist and a drummer, there’s a bunch of sound that comes out from the two rockers. The new album Closed Knuckle Jaw is packed full of party anthems, that have a sound similar to early Black Keys. The album starts off with a heavy hitter “Chantael” which immediately has a super catchy guitar riff. My favorite track from the album has to be “Miles Of Cocaine.” It is real gritty and has a wicked awesome guitar solo, along with singing about a bunch of cocaine. This band is a must see live as well, so check them out.
Duke Evers EP, Handful of Pennies starts with their single, “Lions” that grabs your attention immediately with catchy guitar chords and a drum rhythm that makes you just want to dance. This is feel good Indie Rock at its finest. Hailing from Seattle with a Blues/Pop mix that has a magnetic pull that draws you in and holds you hostage until the music stops. Duke Evers has an energy that will bleed into anyone’s soul and resonate there. The combination of Kyle Veazey (drums) and Josh Starkel (vocals/guitar) is a combination of pure musical bliss. Through the four track EP they show incredible diversity in range, tempo, rhythm, and originality. Their track, “Seaside” is incredibly catchy and is sure to be a favorite with Josh Starkel’s appealing, smooth voice and Kyle Veazey’s clean, upbeat drum hits.
The album has an enigmatic feel that is both unique to them while being strangely familiar. Handful of Pennies drops today so be sure to give it a listen, it is well worth your time.
